The big picture: Update 31st July 2004

More planning, but this time - real time planning on the layout room.

See the plans page off the main page to see a slighly updated plan 7.

What have I been doing ?

I have cleared up the main room fairly well, enough to do alot of planning. I have been able to chalk the carpet to show me the main peninsular 1:1 . Easy planning, as you do see what can fit in a real enviroment. I chalked up both levels, and the mainline on each level with their centers, as well as the main wall/divider.

With that done I started to revist the grades and levels. This took me some time and some exeprimentation. I found I could rise 2cm for every 90cm. So I cut up some wood , 2cm, 4cm...30cm and I literally placed these onto the bench to see where I would get to.

I then set up about 4m of track on some baords at the exact grade, and tested a few of my locos and one test train. I tried the most important loco (read looks the best but is rather weak) - and were satisfied. I knew I have far more powerful locos - well they can pull the regular and longer trains.

So I then continued the height/grade until I found where it will go through into the sun room. I have already cut out two holes for tracks ( the lower staging int ot he main station, and the Upper staging entrance) - and to date I didn't know where this third hole had to go. Now I know.

I had a chance to see with this constent grade I couls ease it soemwhere between the 2nd station and the third station on the line. I chose to ease the grade in that area between the 2nd statin and the Passing loop, as the line has a few curves over 90% - easing the greade may make the locos pass this area the same as on the main grade.

I thus are rather happy knowing where my train can get to, and the heights will work for me. The plan will altered to suit as I go.
