Update 28th April 2008 A long weekend for ANZAC day here in Australia, and while remebering the Aussies who have gone to war, I did have some progress on my layout. Photos in a few days so for now a word description. The spline for this section is finished, needing only to be screwed to the risers. Tried out my new electric planer, and while it works fine, the exhaust left a fine layer over me, the floor and half the tools etc! Taped a plastic bag to the exhaust and that worked a treat ! The splines are now all level and smooth. So I painted the spline with some brown paint I had for another project and never used. The lower station is the main part of this update however. As you can see above, or in plan 8 the station has now had it's plan "locked" in for now.
The station layout is to the left. The same plan on the right shows what can be controlled from the CTC.
To use this station to it's full pontential it will have to be switched in. The mainline crossed the deep river bridge and passes thorugh the station, into the juntion at the bottom. The station platform is on the loop. It is set up so shunting can occur while trains can pass on the main, apart from any grain movements. The junction at the bottom has the mainline heading upgrade, and the loop line which heads back to the lower staging yards to form a continuous run. The Grain road rejoins on the loop line so it cannot be used as a passing siding for the mainline. The station had two main goods types at this stage. It will have a traditional goods shed with a crane, and a intermodel yard which is just a few sidings with a small country container yard. This station will be very busy as a junction. Throw in local shunting and a operator will have their hands full. The CTC part is very simple, not alot of track they can control. While the station is switched in it cannot depart trains, only shunt within local limits on the mainline. CTC/train order will be required to depart. Work on this station has started with first cleaning the station from junk, then rechecking the plan, then I have been using cork strips that Chris & Charles produced. I have been glueing them down a few lengths at a time. As of today 70% of the roadbed is laid. I also decided to paint the roadbed, while painting/sealing the spline. In a previous update I shows the start of a new spline at the other end of this station, heading to the major bridge & main station. Well I decided to add some more baseboard there and start the spline about 60cm further around the curve.
