This working bee was only myself and Roger. Before I continue I thought I'd share a entry I made on the Layout design sig yahoo site:
To bring even more layout design into the forums here's a case of no design or planning.... and I'm at fault ! The photo shows some benchwork in one of my two rooms slowly being turned into a double deck Railway. Well this room will have three levels, one at the bottom, being the main station, one in the middle being a smaller sceniced line on a narrower baseboard, and the upper level which is really a return loop staging yard above everyone's heads. Now the photo shows this upper staging yard being built - low so we can constuct it then when ready ti will be lifted into position - just where the light shines in the top right of the picture. the sliding door is on the far left, just left of al that paper on the floor. Now, the thing was the bulding of this level made access to the door "hard" as in the classic bad crawl under situation. When in the right place it will be a nod under, and the door will be easier to use. But for now it's a pain, and is only open when I have a working bee. Roll onto the actual problem after I hope setting the scene. Last Wednesday I had a working bee and knew if I didn't have the right preparaion, not much would get done. And this was the need for plywood to cover the framework - I needed sheets of ply. So during my lunch beak I went and bought some ply sheets and took them home. What I forgot was the ply was 4x8ft 12mm thick ply, and I failed to think about how to get them into the room. Yep by having the level across the door at the height it is now (which was a nice building height which coincidentally is the same height as the lower level will be) - it made it impossible to get the ply into the room diaganally or otherwise !!! Could not take though the house (and down stairs) - so we had to cut it outside to fit. This sounds like a normal thing, but on a wensday night we really wanted to keep the noise down. And I did not have a good circular saw either. So the other mate who came around laterally thought it out, and we went to his place to get a tablesaw. Time "wated" in travel was saved in getting the wood cut. Yes we did the work done that night and 3/4 of the level has ply cut. Only need one more sheet. this time I'm gettign 3ft wide sheets so I do not stuff up !!! My lesson, when building, ensure you have access to bring materials in !!! Regards, David Head So what was done is shown below. We got 4 panels cut, but not secured yet. The following Saturday I went and purchased more ply so next time we can do the remaining area then screw it all down. This will caus emor eproblems in making it even harder to open the sliding door. I may leave the ne piece of ply unscrewed at this location until I am absolutlely ready to lay track ! Point motors: A friend can get cheap servo motors in and has a purpoe built servo signal generator built as well. I'm very interested but are still seeking other ways to drive a servo. Brunell Hobbies have a small circuitboard I have a kit at home to try. At About AUD $7 I'll try it to see. Otherwise these people have a different solution : http://www.tamvalleydepot.com/products.html - with a normal and a DCC option.
