Well I have been recharging the batteries and geeting some new inspiration at the Bendigo and Hobson Bay 2001 Model Railway Exhibitions. But the plan 1 is worring me a little, nagging in it's complexity. So I have been doing the heights. The first time I did it on paper, checking the heights of the various levels. A few problems surfaced. There does not seem to be enough space for the heights. I thought the exisitng bench would be an ok height for the lower level. But there seems to be height problems, or should I say not enough height difference between "E" & "F" & "J". Then the height of "G" & "H" are a concern.
So, I wanted to lower all the heights. The only obsticle is the existing benchwork on the inner wall. It's height determined all the other heights on the layout. But it could be cut down to the main concrete block under it, saving another 22cm. So I recalculated the heights, as you can see. This gave me far more space for all levels. It lowered all areas as well. I were not worried about the track on the concrete - it was plain track with no points. But it seems too low ! I didn't mind "A". "B" being low, as well as the Lower staging. Having "C" that low was not acceptable. I will try for another height survey, but in it's present form I now do not think I can pull it off. So, what to do ??? ( well there are plenty of locos to be remotored....) I'll start doodleing a new plan. But I do like this one ! So, the thing to do is to modify the existing plan. And it continues, with another plan for station "G". It seems far better then the 'second' one, with this plan based on the orignal "F" plan. There is still plenty of shunting here. |
