The big picture: Update 15th Febuary 2004

You know what it's like, a 41 degrees celsius, clear blue sky, no wind.

What better time to do more on the railway!

One of my frienda, Steven came over intent on seeing more work done. Despite the heat we did a bit I thought.

Here we see Steven at work cleaning up the hole in the brick for the upper level.

We had to take the panelleing veneer off to expose the brickwork first. This hole brings the mainline into the sun room for a third and final time, it only has to go up 15cm to reach the upper staging yards.

A side shot of two holes. There will be another about half way between them, when I can work out where to put it. The lower holes come right out of the lower staging. Coincidentally the upper basicallt will be going into the upper staging.

Looking into the lower hole to see some of the benchwork through the gap. This hole may allow double track if needed. Better to allow for it now !!!

From the main room side, a view of the upper hole as it will take the railway just below the stairs an onto the"2nd level".

From the main room side, a view of the lower hole as we see the staging baseboards in place. I am doing th ebase boards frames first, then will cut out the ply for the top, then while these are still loose, do the trackwork for the saging yard throat which begins right after the track comes out of the brick gap.

For access there is a "closet/walkway" onm the other side of the stairs for easy access.

The other end of the stageing has had some more ply cut, seen here in a trial fit. The board's edge which is bottom right middle of the picture will be cit off as a curve when I'm satisfied with the curve for the staginf return loop.

I have had a planned work bee on my layout the week after our March Long weekend (6-8 March), but some of the work I have thought about has been done. So I'll have to plan more jobs to do, and ensure I have all the material. I am laerning slowly when you have these work bees, your task is to ensure the logistics are met, enough material to keep them working, and the tea & coffee/soft drinks ready upstairs.

That's all for Febuary.
