The big picture: Update 14th May 2006

BY thankfull I'm doing all these updates - it means I'm doing something on the layout ! A little more progress, the track is growing slowly. The interesting thng is the backscene trials. I had a sheet of 3mm ply in 8x4ft that I cut up. Two cut sheets were for the backscene, the other for the facia. The backscene are not to extend all the way to the top, that part will be hidden by the valance evnetually. Nor does the backscene have to extend to the benchwork, scenry is not that low ! The main trial was to see how much I could safely bend the ply. - enought to suit me. The photos show it sprung back a fair bit, I'm not ready to tack then up yet. They will be the basis for the backscene, maybe not the final thing - but I need it in to continue the scenery work.

Speaking of that I vbought some canite/ noticeboard material. It is light, can be carved and a useful interim/final gap filler. Originallty thought of just foam, but for any flattish area I can use this material easily.

The small facia board is just tacked in a few spot for thinking purposes. the final one I intend to actually spline it sort of, laminate ti might be a better description. I will glue two thicknesses to the edge, one may have been already contoured, so I can then cut the second to suit. Just a 3mm facia is too thin for me.

I'm dong this work so I can start to run more test trains. It's the fall and the crash at the moment that stops me trying out locos etc on it.

Tuesday 16th Update:

More track is laid, the station is starting to see alot of points and track. All ramps are cut. One point has been lifted as it was not good enought, I'll take it back to the workbench to see if I can save it. I'm still mindful of trackwork quality.

I have also finished the spline now for the headshunt. This will be a complex area as I deided it borders a stream/waterway. It's a lot tighter than the main but it is a shunting neck so should be ok.
