The big picture: Update 13th April 2008

With a visit from a good modeller, and the approachinmg wednesday working bee this week, I were motiveted to do some continual work down in the layout room. Work occured on this new area. The key was the mainline and the branch departign the bottom station on a grad eup, then the branch levelling off then heading down, to meet the staging yard which forms the continuous loop part. The main is rising from the junction on a 1:45 up grade.

Upper Mainline.

The mainline has risen around this area and has a single spline resting on the long straight on the rear wall. The risers are in and all that is needed for most od this run is the spine made up to 5 verticals. The rear wall is a passing loop, well the pasing loop will start after the curve comes around. I'm thinking of using 2x4 pine as the baseboard, you can see a mockup in one of the photos. Very easy to set the grade as well :)

Grade wise it is good to see the grade higher by about 2cm than the original shelf height. This is important if the mainline is to rise enough to get to the second level, without needing a steeper section, or more creative way. If needed I could swing a single turn helix, above the lower staging, but would rather not !
There will be two bridges on the outer "driveway" wall. Another chance at a high impressive bridge. The upper will be a plategirder multispan bridge. The lower a single through girder bridge, or perhaps a trestle. The baseboard is way lower than it has to, it was built to allow me to work it out.

Lower branch.

The lower branch from the junctionm has about 40cm of flat level before heading down a 1:45 down grade. The line snakes and follow the mainline on the series of "S" bends. It will head over the now daylighted concrete house foundation and then be a unsceniced drop to the staging yards.

This has only one spline heading around the corner, with a two spline intial construct done Sunday night. As you cans see it is well clamped! Rather than working on one section of spline I extended it so I can get the spline in a good curve. As I go I'm getting better in doing the spline, and extending it. There are several temporary vertice riser, basically holding the spline where the bridge scene will be. When I make the sull spline I'll then put in proper verticals.

Grade wise it is heading down nicely.
I hope to have enough to do this comming Wednesday. I wish I had more clamps! There are things to do, to seal in the concrete area from the under part of the house & put in a 3mmm floor as well, more spline to glue & clamp, and perhaps some cork to lay for the lower station. Might even start a new spline a tthe other end of the lower station as well.

And I have to try to continually clean up as well !!
